Astro Gold for iOS has an excellent atlas, and most places you will look for when you go to create a chart will be found in this atlas. But sometimes a city cannot be found in this atlas, and when this happens, Astro Gold provides a way to search Google Maps for the location.

Once you have entered the Country (or the State, if the location is in the USA), you next type in the Place (city, town, etc.), and click the circled arrow to the right of it to check the atlas. But if you know you have typed the location in correctly, and the atlas does not find it, a message will pop up stating Lookup failed, and letting you know that the Placename you typed was not found in the country (or State) you had typed. You click OK to get rid of that message, and you are back at the data entry screen. Now it is time (as long as you are connected to the internet either through your network carrier’s data network, or through a Wi-Fi signal) to search Google Maps. And to do this, you click on the blue world globe symbol to the left of the Place field. A map will open up, and at the top there will be a place for you to type in the location. Once you have done so, tap the Search button, and if you have typed the location correctly, the map should hone in on the city or town, showing a banner with the location. Below the name in this banner you will see the words Tap to save and select this location. Go ahead and tap the banner, and you will be given the opportunity to save the found location to your personal atlas. The name of the city or town will show there, but you can change it to something else if you’d like. (For example, you may have searched for the location of your mother’s birth town, so if you’d like you can name it “Mother’s place”.) Once you have accepted, or changed, the name of the location, tap the Save button. (If you have already saved the location previously, you will get a message stating this is a Duplicate Place, and asking if you want to proceed to overwrite the previous saved location.) Once you have saved the location, you will be returned to the data entry screen, and the longitude, latitude and time zone of the found location will be entered for you.
